Does Block Center see only cancer patients?

While years of research and clinical practice have established Block Center as a leading cancer treatment institute, from the beginning we have been a center for whole health. The Center for Optimal Health offers appointments for all patients seeking an integrated mind-body approach to medical care - to encourage health and disease prevention.

We want to emphasize that our clinical staff of highly trained physicians, registered nurses and dedicated professionals in the fields of nutrition, psychology, bodywork and exercise physiology are committed to the true care of each individual.

What are the professional credentials of the Block Center staff?

Our staff of highly educated professionals continually remains at the cutting-edge of health care.  It is their dedication that provides the heart of our organization.  Our team includes physicians and oncologists who are board certified or have equivalent training and clinical expertise, medical researchers, registered nurses, registered dietitians, exercise specialists, psychologists, clinical psychologists, lifestyle counselors, and licensed massage and bodywork therapists.    Most have received advanced training, additional certifications and serve on the boards or are members of  prominent medical organizations and societies.   For more detailed information about individual clinical staff, please link to Our Staff

How does Block Center tailor treatment to each patient?

The most effective treatments must be designed to meet your individual needs.  We tailor your treatment program using a series of thorough diagnostic tools that consider

  1. medical history and dietary, physical and lifestyle habits,
  2. biological condition and emotional well being, and
  3. comprehensive testing, including advanced nutrient and molecular laboratory assessments.

Optimal treatment considers your unique biochemistry, the disease itself and the ways in which conventional and complementary therapies can work synergistically to aid your body in recovery.

How long should I expect to stay at the center on my first visit?

Because of the individualized nature of treatment, the length of each visit varies.   To provide the best care possible, our doctors and complementary care specialists conduct a thorough intake process.   During your initial visit, please allow at least a half of a day for your medical consultation and introduction to the Block Integrative Nutritional Therapy program .  We strongly encourage you to also make appointments with our complementary care providers, which may extend your visit to a 2 day program.

What if I only want to see the nutritionist?

Although we feel the most effective treatment comes from our complete comprehensive program, we do offer nutritional consultation packages in our office and by phone for those that wish to only pursue the dietary component of our program.  For more detailed information on the Block Integrative  Nutritional Therapy program please visit our page on therapeutic dietetics.

Is Block Center an in-patient facility?

The Block Center is an outpatient facility.  We have designed a community style atmosphere that furnishes you with numerous resources because we believe a caring and supportive environment provides the ideal context for healing.

If our comprehensive program requires you to be at our center for more than one day you will have the  opportunity to enjoy the charm of Evanston, Illinois.  We are conveniently located by the prestigious Northwestern campus within close proximity of many convenience hotels and bed and breakfasts, several of which offer discounts to our patients.

Does Block Center take insurance?

We know that financial concerns and questions can cause added stress at an already stressful time.  That's why we have insurance specialists who will work with your insurance company to make sure you receive all of the benefits you are entitled to, as determined by your policy.

How can I make an appointment?

To make an appointment, simply call one of our patient advocates at (847)492-3040 or link to our Scheduling an Appointment page for more information.

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with cancer, we encourage you to seek treatment without delay.  In such an overwhelming time it is important to understand all of your options.  Call us to find out how our  integrative program can benefit you.
